Ready for the battle

Times is running and it's been almost 110 years since this photo was taken by Peschke. As you can see the man is dressed in the traditional uniform of Skyros. He is called "Geros" literally meaning the old man and he is standing in a prominent position, having in his back the crowd of locals. So imperious. Aspect of a gladiator who is ready for the battle.
He makes us wondering, either if he suffocates in this rare and unique thing he is wearing, or if he has the most of energy that someone can have inside him.
The people behind and opposite him are in great attendance of what is going to follow in the next minutes. Bells are about to be heard everywhere, wine is going to flow like water and transcendent Skyrian songs, coming throught the centuries, will wake up the souls of our ancestors.

110 years back and the need to live the Skyrian Apokria (Carnival) was immense.
110 years after, nothing has changed in the hearts of local people, who count down the days, while this ritual is getting closer.
